A Message From Superintendent Tracy Wrend
As the school year winds down, students are celebrating their individual and school-wide accomplishments. Morristown Elementary School and Stowe Elementary School have both embraced the practices of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) and are closing the year with school-wide recognition of students’ respectful, responsible behavior. We are pleased to see the evidence of this work not only inside the walls of our schools but also in the ways our students engage and interact in our communities, such as at the recent Memorial Day observances in Morristown and Stowe.
In addition to school-wide and individual accomplishments, middle-level students have enjoyed choosing opportunities to explore their interests and work in teams. This spring, six Stowe Middle School students competed in the statewide Destination Imagination tournament and went on to compete in the Global Finals in Kansas City. For a third year in a row, Peoples Academy Middle Level students won big at the annual bridge building competition at Vermont Technical College in Randolph, winning five out of seven possible categories!
Numerous students at Stowe High were recognized at their Awards Assembly on June 7, and PA students will be recognized for their achievements at Last Chapel on June 13. And, of course, we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of all our seniors at graduation on June 13 at 7:00 p.m. at Peoples Academy and on June 15 at noon at Stowe High School.
EMUU Board Brief
June 4, 2019
Our June 4 meeting marked the last regular board meeting for the EMUU school district.
Going forward, business will be conducted for the merged EMUU/Stowe district by the LSUU board, which consists of three members from Morrisville, three from Stowe, and one from Elmore. With the merged budget approved, July 1 signals the start of the new LSUU district.
The board approved meal prices for 2019-2020. Prices will remain the same as the 2018-2019 school year.
Peoples Academy’s graduation is Thursday, June 13, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the PA Bandshell.
The board discussed values and decision-making guidelines, hopes and dreams, and reviewed LSUU priorities for an upcoming LSUU board retreat.
It has been an honor to serve as the Elmore-Morristown Unified Union board. We are confident the LSUU board will continue to provide all students in the LSUU district an excellent educational experience at a cost taxpayers value. We wish all of our EMUU community a wonderful summer.

SSD Board Brief
June 3, 2019
The last Stowe School District board meeting started with us thanking Marty Lacasse for her many years of service as Stowe’s Elementary School principal and music teacher. Jim Brochhausen and Lindsey Lamb were also recognized for their service on the board. As of July 1st, we will be merged into the Lamoille South Unified Union (“LSUU”) School Board. Cara Zimmerman, Tiffany Donza, and Leigh Pelletier will continue to serve on the LSUU School Board.
Normal School Operations—PBL Update: A summary of the junior class presentation on Tuesday, May 28th, was given. The meeting provided parents with an overview of supports for the college planning process and samples of the transcript/school profile/Q1-Q2 reporting that have been under development. After hearing public comment from junior parents, the administration indicated that all feedback from both the meeting and survey will be synthesized and incorporated where possible. Junior parents will hear back before the beginning of the next school year regarding further developments to the reporting to colleges. For next year, Don McDowell will be coming back from his retirement to advise and support the senior TAs. This additional support is being provided to ensure that this year’s junior class has a smooth and productive senior year. K-12 School Schedule: The SHS schedule will remain the same as it was before. All schools will end 8 minutes later to provide more time both between classes and in their TA classroom for SMS/SHS students and more flex time for SES students.
Stowe School District Closure— Resolution Regarding Transfer of Property to LSUU: All property, buildings, and real estate will be cared for by LSUU. If they are not needed for education in the future, they will be returned to the Town of Stowe for $1, as specified by the law and provisions in our articles of agreement. Capital/Scholarship/Fiduciary Funds: Will continue to be dispersed as specified. Hopes & Dreams and Values for Decision Making for LSUU: We reviewed LSSU’s priorities over the past several years, and then discussed what we see as important values to forge a positive partnership moving forward.
