  • Youth Mental Health-Ending the Silence: Join presenters on Tuesday, May 14th, 6:00pm-7:30pm in the SHS cafeteria.Lamoille County Mental Health Services will speak about what to look for and how to talk to your child about mental health.  Stowe High School students will also present. Community members, parents & youth invited. Free childcare & pizza provided. All students who attend will receive 3 hours community service.   • Get your 2019 Yearbook by Friday May 17th! You can order here or complete and submit an order form with cash or check (made to Stowe High School) for $55 to Tarah or Ms. Schafer.

  • A Night at the Movies: Prom 2019 will be held on May 18th at Stoweflake from 7:00-10:00 pm. For tickets please reach out to a member of the prom committee, names available at the front office, and are $25 for a single or $40 for a couple.  IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON INVITING A NON-SHS STUDENT PLEASE SIGN THEM UP AT THE FRONT OFFICE. You will need an emergency contact for them when signing up.

  • COLLEGE VISIT: Are you looking for opportunities to visit college campuses? On May 23rd, the School Counseling Department is hosting a field trip to meet with admissions representatives and to tour the University of Vermont and Champlain College. This is a great opportunity to experience visiting both a big and small school to see what style of campus might be the right fit for you.  Details: On May 23rd, students will depart from school at 8:15am and return to school at 2:00pm. This trip is open to students in grades 8-11 and there are a limited number of spaces available. 8th grade students should sign up with Ms. Nicole. High school students should sign up with Tarah. ** IMPORTANT: Students will need to bring a bag lunch due to the limited dining hall options at both schools. Unfortunately, we will not be able to leave the group to seek out lunch food if you forget to bring your own lunch.**If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email Lauren Conti (SMS) at [email protected] or Patti Tomashot (SHS) at [email protected].

  • SPPAC Spring Concert: Stowe MS & HS will be having it's spring concert at SPPAC on the evening of Friday, May 24th.  Along with showcasing the work of our current students, it will also be an alumni concert, featuring a multi-generational cast of Stowe grads.  This is also Jane Lambert’s final concert as a member of the Stowe music faculty. So...a big night in Stowe music history! With so many people involved, SPPAC has requested that we ticket the event.  Tickets will be free for all; just used to manage capacity issues and make sure families of our current students are guaranteed seating for the event. The MS Concert will start at 7:00pm and the HS/Alumni Concert will begin at 8:30pm.

  • The Students For Community Change Club will be selling coffee in the commons area, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays throughout the end of the school year. The coffee will be sold from 7:15 to 8:00. Hot coffee is 2$ and iced is 3$. All proceeds will be going to the Clarina Howard Nichols center.

  • OUTSIDE RULES: As the weather gets nicer, if you have a free period you may go to the outside common areas, such as the courtyard and the lawn in front of the auditorium. You may NOT use the fields, be in the parking lot, or be out back on the tennis courts.

  • There is a new schedule for teacher coverage of classes when no sub is available. Students ARE EXPECTED to attend class when the teacher is absent. Maryanne will make an announcement when there is no sub, and students will be responsible for checking the schedule to see where they should meet for class. The schedule will be posted in classrooms, the library, and the main office. A copy has been sent to all students via email.

  • 38th Annual Student Art Show: Please come to the 38th year of celebrating spectacular artwork from area students, exhibiting their skill in multiple media and showcasing their expressive voice at the Helen Day Art Center.  Artwork will be available for viewing May 1st-June 1st.

  • SEF Families to Faculty: Thanks and Appreciation Donation Program  What: Make a donation in honor of a faculty member and support our schools and students.  When:  May 6th- June 12th. Looking for a unique way to say “Thank you” to that special faculty member who has made a difference or for an end of the school year special gift of appreciation? SEF will send a card to faculty members for ALL donations of any size made through this program.  You may also personalize the card and send it yourself. To participate: Online at www.stoweeducationfund.org select the “Teacher Appreciation” tab, call SEF at 730-2255 or mail a check to PO Box 820.

  • Class of 2019- Congratulations! Your yearbooks are free! You will receive your yearbook during Senior Life Skills on June 4th. There is no need to order a yearbook. Thanks!

  • Last Day of School: We anticipate that the last day of school for students will be Friday, June 14.  In the unlikely event of additional school closures, this date could change.

  • SHS Class of 2019 Baccalaureate will be held at the Stowe Community Church at 5:00pm.   

  • Graduation will take place on June 15th at 12:00pm.  Graduation Breakfast for seniors will be held at the Commodores Inn at 10:00am.


 

Guidance Announcements

  • Saint Michael’s College VTVLC Opportunity: The State of Vermont's Dual Enrollment Program enables rising high school juniors and seniors to take one summer college course through Saint Michael’s Accelerated Summer College, with tuition paid for by a state-funded program. With two summer sessions featuring a diverse course catalog and 29+ online and on-campus courses, your students will be able to get ahead and earn college credits with no tuition expense. Students will only be responsible for course material fees, estimated to be $75 - $100 per course.

    • Summer Session 1: May 20th  – June 28th; online and on-campus courses, including:  Financial Accounting, Human Anatomy and Physiology,  Marketing, Lifespan Development, Elementary Statistics.

    • Summer Session 2: July 1st  – August 9th; online courses, including:  Personal Financial Planning, Concepts in Chemistry, History of Rock,  International Relations, General Psychology.

AP Exam Information and Schedule

  • Students please remember to arrive ON TIME (or you will not be able to sit for the test) and with the necessary permitted supplies:

  • Several sharpened No. 2 pencils (with erasers) for completing answer sheets

  • Pen, with black or dark blue ink only, for completing areas on the exam booklet covers and for free-response questions in most exams

  • Stowe School Code: 460435

  • A watch

  • Up to two calculators with the necessary capabilities -- visit apstudent.collegeboard.org/apcourse and click on the link for their course for the specific calculator policy

  • A ruler or straightedge if taking an AP Physics exam (protractors are not allowed)

  • Your CollegeBoard SSD Accommodations Letter if taking an exam with approved accommodations

  • You cannot bring the following items:

  • Electronic equipment (cell phone, smartphone, other wearable technology, laptop, tablet computer, etc.), cameras

  • Books, compasses, mechanical pencils, correction fluid, highlighters, notes or colored pencils

  • Rulers, straightedges and protractors (except as previously noted)

  • Scratch paper

  • Computers or calculators (except as previously  noted)

  • Reference guides, keyboard maps

  • Applications Now Open: Advanced Coder Camp:  Applications for the Advanced Coder Camp (days) July 22 to 26, 2019 at Vermont Technical College, Williston Campus for rising 7th–11th graders are now open. The camp provides an opportunity for students with some programming background to dive deeper into programming. Campers will learn to develop simple Android applications using Java and xml. Smartphone apps, robots, video games and small business - the world runs on code. Whether you dream of becoming a Google developer or want to launch your own mobile game startup, your coding path continues here. $175 (includes workbook, activities, instruction, some lunches, snacks, field trip and more) Many partial fee scholarships available.   • Applications Now Open: Computer Camp: Applications for a new Computer Camp days July 29 to Aug 2, 2019 are now open. The camp will be held by Vermont Technical College on the CCV Upper Valley Campus in White River Junction for rising 7th – 10th graders. Campers will have a chance to explore/experience a wide variety of topics in computer programming, website development, networking, cybersecurity and related fields working with Vermont Tech faculty. They’ll also have an opportunity to meet with industry professionals who will share their experience on why careers in computing can be so rewarding. Learning, physical activity, and fun will be in abundance. $175 (includes all activities, instruction, some lunches, snacks, field trip and more) Many partial fee scholarships available.
