The Stowe School Board conducted a preliminary review of the FY19 budget. Andrew Lundeen, Director of Finance and Operations for Lamoille South Supervisory Union, led the board through the first draft of the proposed budget. The board and the administration are committed to tight fiscal responsibility in the face of significant tax pressures at the state level that will impact school funding. Those tax increases can be reduced by an estimated 3 cents or more if all districts limit increases in per-pupil spending to 2.5%. The proposed FY19 Stowe budget actually reduces per-pupil spending.
While it will take a commitment to fiscal responsibility across all districts to truly mitigate the projected tax increases, the Stowe School Board and administration are committed to doing our part without impacting programming. The administration has been careful to protect educational opportunities while tightly containing costs.
The proposed budget can be viewed online HERE. There will be two more budget meetings: Monday, January 15, and Monday, January 22, at 6:00 PM in the Stowe Elementary School Music Room. Our public hearing on the budget is Monday, February 26, at 6:00 PM in the Akeley Memorial Building.
