Stowe Elementary School Principal Marty Lacasse presented on proficiency based learning at the elementary level. Our students are practicing scholarly habits and growth mindsets. Even our youngest students are developing learning strategies such as goal setting, flexible thinking, self-advocacy, and planning. Stowe Middle School Principal Dan Morrison will present on implementation of proficiency based learning at the middle level during our next regular board meeting, October 16.
The board continued work on key goals in the areas of budget and capital projects. Budgeting is a year-round process, with several different years of budget in various phases of development or implementation at any given time. As we begin to develop the FY19 budget, the board will articulate our priorities and consider state and national developments that may impact funding. As we tighten our budget procedures, we are prioritizing ways to increase both accessibility and transparency.
Our capital projects needs fall into two categories:
Development of a framework for the management and use of the money we set aside during the budgeting process for smaller capital projects.
Formation of a capital project committee to make recommendations regarding larger needs--including capacity issues--that are beyond the scope of the yearly budgets. We hope to form this committee in December.
Our next regular board meeting will be Monday, October 16, at 6:00pm in the Stowe Elementary School music room.
